Biography
- In 1978, he graduated from the Pediatric Faculty of the 2nd MOLGMI named after N. I. Pirogov, then completed an internship in pediatric surgery.
- Since 1979, he has been working at Children's City Clinical Hospital No. 13 named after N. F. Filatov (Filatov Hospital), advancing from a resident doctor in the thoracic department to the head of the thoracoabdominal surgery department (since 1995).
- From 1983 to 1987, he studied in the full-time postgraduate program at the Department of Pediatric Surgery of the 2nd MOLGMI named after N. I. Pirogov.
- In 1987, he defended his candidate dissertation on "Antireflux protection of the transplant during esophagoplasty" (scientific advisor — Y. F. Isakov), and in 1995, he defended his doctoral dissertation on "Surgical treatment of portal hypertension in children."
- Since 1996, he has been a professor at the Department of Pediatric Surgery at RSMU (RNIMU) named after N. I. Pirogov, and in 2012, he was elected as the head of the Department of Pediatric Surgery.
- Since October 2008, he has been the Chief Pediatric Surgeon of the Moscow Department of Health.
- In 2016, he was elected a Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Scientific Activity
- Fields of surgical expertise: abdominal and thoracic surgery, endosurgery, and vascular surgery.
- Author of over 500 scientific publications and 25 monographs, as well as a textbook on pediatric surgery for medical students.
- Under his supervision, 22 candidate and 10 doctoral dissertations have been defended.

- President of the Russian Association of Pediatric Surgeons.
- Board member of the Moscow Society of Surgeons, the Russian Society of Endoscopic Surgeons, and the Russian Society of Gastroenterological Surgeons.
- Member of the European Association of Pediatric Surgeons and the Russian Association of Hepatobiliary Surgeons.
- Editorial board member of the journals "Pediatric Surgery," "Annals of Surgery," "Issues of Practical Pediatrics," "Bulletin of Pediatric Surgery, Anesthesiology, and Resuscitation," and "Thoracic Surgery."

- Government of the Russian Federation Award in Science and Technology (2000) for the development and implementation of reconstructive and plastic esophageal surgery in children.
- Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation (2017).
- Twice recipient of the S. D. Ternovsky Award (1996, 2000).
- Twice recipient of the "Prizvanie" Award (2003, 2014).
- Winner of the "Best Doctor" competition in the "Best Pediatric Surgeon" category (2011).
